After (Book 1) : I really enjoyed this book and found the characters to be intriguing in multiple ways. Tessa and Hardin have such differing personalities and the interactions between them make it extremely hard to put down. I loved how the friends of both characters and their families are introduced and the struggles that outside people have on a personal relationship. I also thought that the conflicts and major plot twist at the book made this book increasingly desirable and a fast read. The movie is very different from this book in many ways and is overall very tamed down, and although I feel that the book is better, the movie is still good as well.
After We Collided (Book 2) : I really enjoyed this next installment of the After series and would highly recommend this novel to all young adult lovers. I think that some of the parts could be cut out entirely and that would result in a shorter book, but overall I enjoyed all of the parts and how they worked together to form the book as a whole. I especially love how this book also ended in a cliff hanger, making me excited to read the next installment. Tessa and Hardin's relationship continues to suffer trials and tribulations, and I feel that the story shows how sometimes love is hard and people will not always approve, but if you feel that it is worth it, you will continue and fight for love.
After We Fell (Book 3) : I enjoyed this next installment of the After series and thought that it was another great addition to Hardin and Tessa's love story. There were parts of this story that made me laugh, cry, and completely make my jaw drop and the plot development is truly remarkable. Hardin and Tessa continue to confront many demons from their past lives and rely on each other and their love to bring them through their trials and tribulations. The secondary characters continue to have lots of input in their relationship, but I love how they are trying to move past others and depend on each other. Another great cliff hanger was at the end of the book that makes me increasingly excited to read the next installment. I think the book was a little long and parts of it could be cut out without any change happening to the story, but overall a good read.
After Ever Happy (Book 4) : I thought that this was a very good conclusion to Tessa and Hardin's story, although I wish it went more in depth with the epilogue and answered question about whether or not they got married. The ending characterization of both Tessa and Hardin was amazing to see their growth from the first novel and how their love has progressed and the things that they have conquered. I love how this book focuses on them more and about their future life and how the conflicts they experienced in their lives together shapes their lives in the future. Overall, I really enjoyed this read and thought that this made a great addition to the series.
Before (Book 5) : This was probably my least favorite book in the after series, because it gives more information about the background characters, but still leaves many questions unanswered. It also just focuses on Hardin's perspective, and I thought that it was not as interesting as the other After books. While it is interesting to see Hardin's thought process, most of the book just seems repetitive of details we already learned throughout the other After books. I overall thought that this book was not as entertaining and did not find it to be as great of a page turner as the other installments.
Overall Thoughts : I loved the series as a whole, although I believe that the books could be much shorter without any main ideas of the novels being lost. The characterization was complete and I loved how you could see the growth of the characters through all of the books and the conflicts that they have overcome and conquered. I liked the message of Tessa and Hardin's love story of fighting for love even when everything is against you, even if both of them caused harm to the other at some point. I think this is a great young adult novel series and worth a read.
